Shawn Walker has developed the P.I.E. program, which teaches participants not only the importance of the key concepts of Planning, Implementing, and Executing. The P.I.E. program goes a step further, making it superior to similar programs, by providing the participants with the tools and tool kit needed to implement the principles being addressed during the program, but also the much needed follow through that is critical to anyone’s success in life..
The P.I.E. program consists of a 1 ½ hour lesson that introduces participants, ages 12-18 to the following core principles of the P.I.E. program:
Insert topics to be discussed under each bullet item
Short-Term Outcomes- Short-term outcomes include a basic understanding of the life skills covered during the course of the program
Intermediate Outcomes- The P.I.E. program teaches participants essential aspects of human knowing and requires the use of higher order thinking skills like analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, resulting in an improved quality of life, as well as improved academic performance.
Long-Term Outcomes- The P.I.E. program will enrich participants quality of life while providing them with the necessary skills to improve their critical thinking ability. In 2015, Scholastic Aptitude Test scores for students who participated in programs like P.I.E. that enhanced critical thinking, scored 59 points higher on the verbal and 44 points higher on the math portion than students with no coursework or experience in the arts.
Evaluation- The measurement instrument that will be utilized is a course evaluation that will provide feedback from students, which in turn can be used to improve upon the program thus ensuring students’ needs are being met. A holistic approach to evaluation views families and programs as existing within a community, and within the larger society. Effective evaluations take into account the broader context within which programs exist and consider the constraints affecting them. In evaluation, community members are deemed important stakeholders. Since community members are always evaluating the programs they participate in, evaluations benefit when the views of community members are represented. In order to further involve the community, at the end of the P.I.E. program each of the participants will present a speech to a toastmaster’s club/clubs. This will encourage future involvement in groups like Toastmasters among those participating in the P.I.E. program.
The target audience for this project are for students who qualify for free-reduced school lunches, the outreach programs are offered at no cost. For students who do not qualify, a sliding fee structure will be offered based on household income.
This can be determined once the core curriculum is established, which will help determine the costs associated with each P.I.E. module.
The goals of the enrichment programs offered by Motivating Future Leaders, Inc. is to enhance knowledge and communication skills. The use of complex concepts to communicate requires the use of higher order thinking skills like analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Studies have shown that students who possess these skills, particularly public speaking, are more likely to have a rich source of information and insight compared to those who do not. hat's a product or service you'd like to show.
